Downingtown Young People's was started in 1977 and has become a tradiation for people near and far. There are several attendees that have come to all 32!!!
Here is some back ground information on young people in AA:
1945- The first Young People's Groups (YPG's) appeared in Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
1960- At an AA convention Bill W. reconized that the age of newcomers was much lower than when he had come into AA, 25 years prior.
1975- ICPYAA published a pamphlet stating that YPG's had members in the 30's, 20's and several in their teens.
1988- GSO published a pamphlet titled "A Message to Teenagers: How to tell when drinking is a problem" due to the increase of teenagers coming to the rooms of AA
2007- GSO reported in their AA Membership Survey Pamphlet that 2.3% are under the age of 21; 11.3% are between the ages of 21-30
And the trend continues,
